About the Organisation
9 out of 10 students who study in government schools drop out before the 10th grade. U&I Teach is a volunteer-driven after school program that aims to educate the lesser privileged youth and help them stay in school. We provide individual attention to students with a 1:3 teacher to student ratio. Most of our students are first-generation learners whose first language is a local language. We aim to teach these children English in order to make them eligible to study in a college of their choice and increase their employability. We also aim to reach out to the students who have already dropped out of school and have no basic education. We want to make sure these kids have an opportunity to learn as well. At U&I we believe in a holistic education model that can help a child develop as a well-rounded individual.

Stories that make us smile...
Two of our students were very excited when their teacher assigned them homework upon the completion of their online class. They wrote down the homework neatly and shared it with the leaders on our official WhatsApp group. The volunteer teacher was so proud and happy to see the students taking initiative for their learning, and she made a "Good Job" poster for the children. It is small moments of accomplishment and affirmations like these that truly keep us and our students going!
A Heartwarming Kickstarter
The whole journey of Kickstarter was very heartwarming right from our pre-event engagement where the volunteers shared about what they've learnt from their students in their journey so far. During the event, along with all our other sessions, we also had sessions where volunteers filled in a form self reflecting on the quality of their class logs, created and shared heartwarming goals for their students in terms of how they want them to be as human beings, their specific behavior growth areas, academic growth areas and unique DIY goals special to each child.
Season's Greetings
It's Christmas Season! This Christmas season, we hosted a virtual party for our students where we played games, did arts and crafts together, and danced away! After the party, children received these personal affirmation notes from their dear teachers - and it just spread joy and cheer all around.
Say Hi to my Dog, Akka!
In the middle of a Math class, a student very excitedly brought in his dog and showed it to his teacher volunteer! That moment immediately lifted the spirits in the room, and it was gleaming with smiles and happiness. It is authentic connections like these that our students and volunteers build that make a great teacher - learner combo!
